A5 in pixels
An A5 flyer at 300 dpi needs 1748 × 2480 pixels. With 3 mm bleed on every side the document becomes 154 × 216 mm, or 1819 × 2551 pixels, which is exactly what most online printers ask for. Other values are worked out by the bleed calculator.

What A5 is used for
- Flyers and handouts, usually on 135 to 170 gsm paper
- Notebooks, bullet journals and exercise books
- Booklets: an A4 sheet folded in the middle makes four A5 pages
- Diaries, programmes, small menus
- Invitations and greeting cards, often A5 folded to A6
A5 booklets
For stapled A5 booklets the printer uses A4 or larger sheets and folds them in the middle, which is why the page count must be divisible by four: 8, 12, 16 or 20 pages. If you have ten pages of content, plan two extra pages for notes or contact details.
In stapled booklets of around 32 pages or more, the inner sheets push outwards when folded. Printers compensate for this “creep”, so leave a little more space from the outer edge on inner pages than on a simple flyer.
Which envelope fits A5?

| flat | 148 × 210 mm | C5 (162 × 229 mm) |

| thick booklet | up to about 2 cm | B5 (176 × 250 mm) |
A5 vs Half Letter
The American counterpart is Half Letter (also called Statement) at 5.5 × 8.5 inches, or 139.7 × 215.9 mm. It is a little narrower and a little taller. Notebooks sold in the US are sometimes labelled “A5” when they are really Half Letter. The millimetre figure on the label settles it.
