D0 between A0 and B1
D0 is the geometric mean of A0 (841 × 1189 mm) and B1 (707 × 1000 mm). Its sides are about 8 % shorter than those of A0, and its area is 84 % of A0. The step from D0 up to A0 is the same as the step from A0 up to C0.
Cutting D0 from A0
You cannot buy D0 paper ready-made. The easiest way is to trim an A0 sheet: 70 mm off the width and 98 mm off the height. At this size a long cutting mat and a steel ruler work best, or ask a print shop to trim the sheet.
A size from 1922
DIN 476 was published on 18 August 1922. It was developed by Walter Porstmann at the German industry standards committee. Next to the A, B and C series it contained the D series, which later disappeared from the standards. The full story is in the history of paper sizes.
